I entered a running marathon for charity last Spring, however I always appreciate doing things akin to this for both helping the needy plus getting some good fitness work for myself and body! But let myself and others tell you something, I will never do one of these again in the Spring or summer! It will have to be either fall or early wintertime before it gets chilly cold.
Because in the Spring and Summer it can be brutal on your body, but when I was running in this thing I wanted and needed nothing more than to be in quality air conditioning after running for about 20 straight hours! It got so bad that I had to certainly back out of the marathon on the morning of the race, my body was just needing the air conditioner on it and I could not carry on without the air conditioner in the warm weather that was happening.
Then the organization running the marathon completely understood and for the morning and a half that I was in there got the credit and money went to the charity. I thought that aspect was good and I felt at ease with it. But I will not do this again unless they have a race in November, October or something akin to that. What a lot of folks do not understand is that no matter how good of shape you assume you are in, you will always need some kind of air conditioner when your body is overworked; especially when the weather is super warm outside! After I bailed out of the marathon run I had gone back to the house and cranked our central A/C to the max!
