Emerson Sensi Thermostat with Wi-Fi Compatibility vs. Honeywell T9 Smart Thermostat Without Sensor Thermostat with Wi-Fi Compatibility vs. Model # 8-733-948-009 Bosch Thermostat with Wi-Fi Compatibility

I have lived in my house all my life. I was born in the bathtub in the master bathroom, and then my parents left the house to me in their will, so I have literally never lived anywhere else. I have been hesitant to change anything about the place, since it was my parents’ house and my childhood home. Recently, however, I have started to make necessary changes to the house as things tear up or get too old and stop working. For instance, over the past few weeks or so, I noticed that the old thermostat unit in the hallway was acting weird. The thermostat has been there since my dad installed it probably 25 years ago when I was a kid. So we definitely got our money’s worth out of it, but I knew that it was time for a change. I did a little bit of research online and figured out that I probably wanted to purchase a smart thermostat as a replacement. This week, I went into my favorite home improvement store, Lowe’s, to do some comparison shopping and finally make a purchase.

The first thermostat I looked at in Lowe’s was the Emerson Sensi Thermostat with Wi-Fi Compatibility. This thermostat was named the best overall smart thermostat last year by USA Today. It has an easy to use touchscreen display so you can adjust the temperature in your home with just a tap on the screen. In addition to the touch screen, it offers a free mobile app that you can download to your smartphone so you can remotely access and program your heating and cooling system anytime and from anywhere! This thermostat is compatible with most home HVAC systems, including mine. The Sensi app will guide you through the installation process and then once it’s installed, you can let it automatically adjust the temperature settings. I love the idea of having a smart thermostat that can intuitively learn my schedule so that I can save money on the HVAC costs every month. Not only that, but the Emerson Sensi Thermostat with Wi-Fi Compatibility connects to Amazon Alexa, which I use at home all the time. It offers four programming periods per day and it has a three year warranty. This thermostat does not offer a filter monitor or an included room sensor but it does have an outdoor weather sensor, which is kind of cool. On the day I looked at the Emerson Sensi Thermostat with Wi-Fi Compatibility at Lowe’s, it was priced at $144.53.

The second thermostat I looked at while I was in Lowe’s was the Honeywell T9 Smart Thermostat Without Sensor Thermostat with Wi-Fi Compatibility. This thermostat has the ability to connect with smart room sensors throughout your home so that it can know the temperature throughout your house at any given time. Once it learns your temperature preferences, it will adjust accordingly to make your home more comfortable without you having to adjust anything. You can adjust this thermostat from anywhere, and it has smart alerts to let you know if your home is too warm or too cold. It can actually configure its own settings once you answer a few questions upon set-up. It has a touch screen like the first thermostat, and it also offers four programming periods per day. The Honeywell T9 Smart Thermostat Without Sensor Thermostat with Wi-Fi Compatibility only has a two year warranty. It doesn’t have an outdoor weather sensor included, but it does give you a filter sensor so you will know when it’s time to change the filters on your furnace or your air conditioning. This one also works with Alexa and it’s sleek and modern to look at. This one is able to work and react to your schedule with geofencing, which is pretty fascinating to me. You can set it to tell who in your family is getting close to home – and your thermostat can adjust to specific preferences based on who is going to be at your house! That’s pretty impressive, in my opinion. Overall, I liked the looks of this one more than the first one but it was priced a little higher at $169.98 on the day that I was shopping.

The last smart thermostat that I looked at in Lowe’s was the Model # 8-733-948-009

Bosch Thermostat with Wi-Fi Compatibility. With this smart thermostat, you can save energy and money. It offers wi-fi connectivity so you can control it from anywhere with its free BCC app, as long as you install it on your phone, tablet, or computer. It has a full color five inch touch screen and this one has a sensor that lets you see the weather forecast either on the thermostat screen or on the app. I really liked that function. This thermostat is compatible to most HVAC systems, including mine, and it will work with dual fuel systems, too. I hadn’t thought about that, but it would be important to have a thermostat that works with both gas and electric power, just in case I ever decide to upgrade my existing HVAC system. This particular thermostat comes with a five year limited warranty, which is a good two years longer than either of the others that I looked at. Not only that, but the Model # 8-733-948-009 Bosch Thermostat with Wi-Fi Compatibility offers 8 programming periods for your heating and cooling system instead of four like the other two. When I saw that, I knew that this was probably going to be the smart thermostat for me. The price for this thermostat was $145.08 and I loved the way it looked, too. To me, it looked like something off of a Star Trek movie.

As you probably could guess, I purchased the Model # 8-733-948-009

Bosch Thermostat with Wi-Fi Compatibility. After I saw the price comparison and what each thermostat offered, it was really a no-brainer for me. I think that I’ll be happy with this choice and I’m looking forward to learning about the many options and conveniences this smart thermostat offers. Even though each thermostat offered a DIY installation, I’m still going to have an HVAC technician come to my house to install it for me. I think that when you’re dealing with an HVAC project, it’s best to use a professional.
