The job is very hard work, and they pay me well and everything but it still wears me out. My boss seems to sense this, which is why every year he sends to Vegas for the big annual trade show. I call it a trade show, and you think it’s just a bunch of boring meetings — which it is – -but there are also big parties, live music, comedians, open bar, and basically an endless good time. I have started living for Vegas every year, and this year might have been the best one yet. You may think HVAC techs can’t party hard, but I assure you that we can. Of course it isn’t supposed to be about parties, it’s about learning the newest trends and tech in the HVAC industry, but we try to do both. As a sales rep, the major HVAC manufacturers all roll out the newest models and upgrades, hoping we will get interesting in pushing them in the following year. To them, we HVAC sales reps are the way they really make their money, because if you have several thousand AC units they don’t make money until you sell them. This year the HVAC convention started a little slower than usual, but by night two we were all really in the zone. I am good at my job, so I didn’t miss any of the big lectures or HVAC product reveals, but I will admit to being hung over for a few of them. It was a great time, and should hold me over until next year’s HVAc convention.
